The Canadian International School System (CISS-VN) operates four programs in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The Canadian International School System – Vietnam (CISS-VN) consists of:
1. The ​Canadian International School (CIS) delivers the Ontario Curriculum Kindergarten to Grade 12 entirely in English. After Grade 10, students are eligible to apply to the IBDP Programme Years 1 and 2, Grades 11 and 12.
2. The ​Bilingual Canadian International School (BCIS) delivers the Vietnamese National Curriculum, Grades 1 – 12 and instruction in English language oral and written fluency according to the Ontario Ministry of Education documents for Language Arts and English Language Learners.
3. The ​Canada-Vietnam Kindergarten (CVK) delivers programs for children ages 18 months
to 5 years old.
4. The ​Albert Einstein School (AES) ​delivers the Vietnamese National Curriculum, Grades 1 – 12 and the Pearson UK English Program.

The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) provides staffing and recruitment consulting services to CISS-VN for CIS, BCIS and CVK. As a part of the consultancy agreement, the TDSB provides CISS with up to date Ontario curricula and offers guidance and support to ensure that CISS staff and students are meeting Ontario expectations. All CISS teachers are either members in good standing, or are eligible to be members in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT). All applications are provided to CISS.

Applicants are hired by CISS, and if successful, will be an employee of the CISS-VN, reporting to the CISS-VN Principal.

Aligned with the recommendations of the International Task Force on Child Protection, CISS holds a high standard of effective recruiting practices with specific attention to child protection.

The ideal candidate has teaching experience with the TDSB and/or other Ontario school board and/or
international experience.

Responsibilities of the Classroom and Specialist Teachers are:
● Effective implementation of assessment for learning and assessment as learning as set out in ​Growing Success: Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting in Ontario Schools

  • Uses appropriate tools to assess learning such as: anchor charts, organizers and templates, checklists, rubrics, portfolios and surveys

● Offer opportunities for critical literacy and implements strategies found in the Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat’s ​Building Capacity Series: Critical Literacy ​Special Edition 9, August 2009
● Create a warm and welcoming learning environment
● Ensure all Health and Safety, and school policies are followed
● Collaborate with grade team teachers and rotary teachers in planning
● Apply Achievement Chart criteria of Knowledge and Understanding, Thinking, Communication, and Application
● Implement effective educational technology strategies to engage student learning
● Incorporate a gradual release of responsibility, explicit teaching and guided reading practice
● Integrate CISS character education values into the curriculum and into the day to day school life

Duties include

● Contribute effectively to the ongoing success of the school in providing high-quality education for all
students, with particular attention to developing students as global learners, citizens and student leaders
● Support all students in developing a love of learning and in achieving their full potential
● Implement the grade and subjects taught based on the Ontario Curriculum and by using research-informed and student-centered pedagogy
● Ensure that all students develop competencies in literacy and numeracy, creativity, communication,
collaboration and thinking skills
● Develop caring, positive and professional relationships with students and staff
● Model the attributes celebrated in the Ontario Character Education Program
● Participate fully in the development of short and long-range teaching/department plans
● Implement effective teaching and learning strategies that include the use of educational technology
● Work with the School Leadership Team in the implementation of school improvement work
● Inspire public confidence by developing positive relationships with parents and the school community
● Lead, coordinate and/or support co-curricular activities, sports, and school events such as arts and
culture
● Establish and contribute to an inclusive, caring and safe learning environment
● Work as a professional learning community to share effective practices provide rich learning tasks for students and use meaningful and authentic print and digital learning resources

Remuneration
Remuneration is based on experience and qualifications. It also includes housing allowance, costs of flight
to and from Canada (Toronto or Vancouver) to Ho Chi Minh City once per year, a one-time settling-in
allowance, free tuition for the first child and a 50% reduction in tuition fees for the second child. Basic
medical and health insurance is provided.

The Board of Directors of the Bilingual Canadian International School Program (BCIS) is seeking a dynamic, experienced and committed educational leader for the position of Principal for their Bilingual Canadian International School Program (BCIS), Grades 1 - 12  located in Ho Chi Minh City, Phu My Hung, District 7, Vietnam. 

The Bilingual Canadian International School delivers an intensive English Language Program based on Ontario Ministry of Education Documents: Language Grades 1 - 8, English as a Second Language and English  Grades 9 -12.

BCIS is committed to providing outstanding learning opportunities for students to demonstrate academic excellence, life skills and character development.  The School Improvement Plan is built on three pillars: Literacy, Character Education and Community, Culture and Caring. Students graduate with a Vietnamese National Diploma.

Currently BCIS employs 40 Canadian/ International teachers all of whom are qualified or eligible to be qualified through the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT). The Leadership Team consists of a Canadian Principal, two Vitenamese Vice-Principals and a Director of the English Language Program. The Leadership Team works closely with grade level leads and the Director of the English as an Additional Language Program.

The Principal is an employee of the CISS and reports to the Head of School and the Board of Directors of the CISS, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Responsibilities of the Principal 

  • Supports the CISS educational vision and strategic directions in building a world class private school system as determined by the Board of Directors;

    • Supports the work of the Board of Directors on developing the CIS Program

    • Is accountable for student achievement and well-being, student enrolment and retention, and sustainability of a highly qualified staff

    • Works closely on a day to day basis with all teachers 

    • Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively with the Board of Directors, the Leadership Team, the Operations Manager, all academic and administrative staff, parents and community partners

  • Inspires the confidence of BCIS parents and community in the delivery of education for all students as a world class private school;

  • Demonstrates expertise as an effective Grade 1- 12 instructional leader who is student-centered, able to build a culture of excellence, and lead staff with programs and instruction that will engage and meet the needs of CIS students;

    • Supports the Board of Directors in the effective development and result-oriented implementation of curriculum and co-curriculum that ensures students success as English as a Second Language Learners

    • Promotes and models strategic use of data to improve learning and ensure a safe, caring and dynamic learning environment and school culture

    • Co-implements with the Principals CIS and CVK the annual school improvement planning process for all 3 schools and works to ensure the School Improvement Plans are aligned and coherent with the Board of Directors’ vision and strategic directions

  • Supports the strategic and systematic professional learning of the teaching staff of BCIS

    • Mentors and supports teachers new to the profession

    • Facilitates the creation of grade, and division teams 

    • Is responsible for hiring Canadian academic staff to ensure high quality teaching and teaching methodologies 

  • Monitors program delivery through learning walks/ walk throughs, TPA and district review processes 

  • Oversees  managerial duties including but not limited to: timetabling, assigning and coverage of teacher absence, safe arrival, the school safety plan

  • Performs duties as assigned by the Board of Directors and/or Head of School

Professional Qualifications

  • Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers

  • Principal’s Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience as a Principal

  • International or private school experience an asset

  • Experience as instructional leader/coach an asset

Professional Attributes and Experience

Like principals everywhere, this successful candidate will have experience that supports the Ontario Leadership Framework (OLF),  but in an offshore setting more careful consideration is given to the personal attributes/resources outlined on the OLF.

  • Successful academic leadership experience in providing pressure and support

  • Demonstrated commitment to student success; strong foundation in assessment of students’ literacy skills

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills,

  • Experience implementing culturally relevant pedagogy

  • Proven ability to motivate, lead and supervise staff in a secondary setting  

  • Experience in staff development notably in supporting beginning teachers

  • Evidence of data-based decision making

  • Experience in developing and implementing school improvement plans 

  • Experience in overseeing/ leading the District Review Process

  • Ability to work well under pressure and a high tolerance for ambiguity

Remuneration

Principal Net  (70% USD, 30% VND)

In addition, the employee receives housing allowance, return flights to and from Toronto or Vancouver to Ho Chi Minh City in each year of the contract, a one-time settling-in allowance, transportation to and from school, lunches each day from the school cafeteria, and free tuition for the first child and 50% for a second.  Basic medical and health insurance is provided.
