Happy school, Happy New Year!

When thinking of Tet, people often think of a chance to come home to rest and to reunite after a busy year. BCIS teachers and students want to blow a new breeze in the spring of this year, turning 2020 into a milestone that will bring a smile and rekindle the spirit of this school year’s theme song - Happy.

"Because I'm happy

Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof

Because I'm happy

Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth

Because I'm happy

Clap along if you know what happiness is to you

Because I'm happy

Clap along if you feel like that's what you wanna do"

This year, the theme of the BCIS’ Tet Festival is "Spring Colours". With a "big box of colourful crayons" we are free and comfortable to create pictures to symbolize Tet. These can be images of our grandmothers’ pot of meat with aromatic duck eggs, apricot and peach trees and/or traditional calligraphy couplets. It can also be a little sad for international students who are away from home during this to New Year holiday. BCIS wants to create a space where students can find their "roots" through traditional beauty but still be free to spread their "young" wings to experience new and modern things.

Despite the "storm" of the end-of-term exams, BCIS students, with the "study hard - play harder" spirit, still talked enthusiastically when they heard the news about Flashmob activity organized for the 2020 Spring Festival. Our goal this school year is to build a cohesive community and the Flashmob performance will be a playground for students to record more memories with their friends and proudly beat their chests to say, “This is my class and we're the best!”. BCIS teachers and students will also launch the unique Tet market, where they can try the taste of traditional coconut jam and inhale the spicy aroma of Korean noodles. They can also experience countless fun folk games and try handicrafts. "Spring" is also an opportunity for students to display their talents as MCs, singers or dancers to perform in front of hundreds of students. The BCIS Spring Festival promises an unexpected new year gift to the CISS community from all of our teachers, Vietnamese and Canadian. We all share a love of Vietnamese culture.

The Spring Festival was inspired by both the traditional and modern style New Year celebrations so that young people can continue to feel connected to their heritage. "The Spring of BCIS" will surely meet with the brightest smiles for us to celebrate a wonderful new year.
